<p><strong>Mobile Marketing -</strong> using SMS messages or Mobile Apps to promote your business/product</p>
<p><strong>Mobile Friendly Website -</strong> a website that can be seen on a mobile phone with ease &#8211; a traditional website requires left-right scrolling, vertical scrolling, and sometimes &#8220;zooming&#8221; in order to be seen.  Also, they can take a long time to load.</p>
<p>Now, a few statistics &#8230;.</p>
<p>- 90% of text messages are read within 30 minutes of receipt &#8211; this is HUGE!  This means that you can almost guarantee that your text message will be read!  E-mails are great and still a useful tool, but the open rate and delivery rate on e-mails is not even close to this!</p>
<p>- Google has announced that it will consider &#8220;mobile first&#8221; in all of it&#8217;s future endeavors </p>
<p>- In 2009 the number of mobile phone subscribers in the world: <strong>4,600,000,000</strong> &#8230; In 2009 the number of Mobile Internet Users: <strong>505,000,000</strong> &#8211; from emarketer.com</p>
<p>- In May 2009 over <strong>64,000,000 US Mobile Phone users surfed the mobile internet</strong> &#8211; SEMPO Emerging Technologies Committee: Mobile Task Force</p>
<p>Are those statistics enough to get you to stand up and take notice?  Now, let me explain how those statistics can be useful to your business&#8230;</p>
<p>First of all, you clearly need to have a mobile friendly site.  The less a person has to scroll or zoom, the longer they are likely to stay on your site.  Also, you need to understand that although mobile internet is getting faster, it is still comparable to dialup speeds &#8211; so sites with a lot of graphics and images will load very slowly &#8211; another excuse for people to leave your site.</p>
<p>Second, just imagine grabbing someone&#8217;s attention right at the moment they are looking for YOUR product or service!  </p>
<p>Imagine, someone in a new city or place they aren&#8217;t familiar with and they want to find a place to eat, so they pull out their &#8220;smart phone&#8221; and search for a place &#8230; and YOUR restaurant along with your menu and a coupon shows up!!!  </p>
<p>Imagine, someone unfamiliar with their area looking for a chiropractor because they just hurt their back, and YOUR site/business and coupon show up!!!  </p>
<p>How much extra business do you think you would get?  And then, you can have them subscribe to your text message list and you can send them coupon codes through text messaging to KEEP them as a customer and encourage referrals.</p>

But is Social Media just for &#8220;fun&#8221; or just for &#8220;kids&#8221; or can you use it for your business?</p>
<p>The answer is a resounding <strong>&#8220;yes&#8221;</strong> &#8212; but the stipulation is that you must do it the right way.</p>
<p>When you plan to use Social Media for your business you need to use the &#8220;Social Media Mindset.&#8221;  The social media mindset is not to sell or advertise constantly.  The social media mindset is to provide value, gain trust, nurture a relationship &#8230; this will provide you with a lifetime customer/client and many referrals.</p>
<h2>What do you mean &#8220;Social Media Mindset&#8221;</h2>
<p>The key concepts behind the Social Media Mindset:</p>
<p><strong>1- Relationships First, Business Second -</strong> build a relationship with your &#8220;prospect&#8221; or potential customer, don&#8217;t just try to sell them something.  The relationship is what builds customer loyalty and makes people want to not only come back to you, but also tell all their friends about your business.</p>
<p><strong>2- Quality not Quantity &#8211; </strong>when using social media, the temptation can be to just go out and massively &#8220;get friends&#8221; or connections.  However, that isn&#8217;t going to do you any good if none of those &#8220;friends&#8221; or &#8220;connections&#8221; or in your target market.  Having a million friends who have no need of your service or product is not going to do you any good.  But 10 friends in your target market can explode your business.  Starting out right will explode your connections in the right way.  </p>
<p><strong>3- Keep your reputation clean &#8211; </strong>Your reputation and your brand is critical to your success &#8211; not only in social media marketing but in general.  </p>
<p><strong>4- Be Authentic &#8211; </strong>People will see right through you if you are fake.  You want to genuinely care about your customers and their needs.  Genuinely want to provide them with good information rather than just &#8220;wanting their money&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>5- Follow Through &#8211; </strong>you can&#8217;t just create a FaceBook account or Twitter account and then do nothing with it.  This is NOT &#8220;Field of Dreams&#8221; &#8211; you can&#8217;t &#8220;build it and they will come&#8221; &#8230; you need to follow through and take action.  A little bit of cultivating and time up front will reap a huge harvest later.  Follow through and cultivate the relationships and build your network and you will be amazed at the results.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s it, that is the &#8220;Social Media Mindset&#8221; in a nutshell.  Honestly, it isn&#8217;t really anything new or earth shattering.  In fact, I&#8217;ll bet you&#8217;ll find that the businesses that are the most successful and have the most loyal customers follow those concepts in ALL areas of their business.  </p>
<p>Don&#8217;t throw money and customers out the window &#8211; adopt these principals today!</p>

<p>No longer does someone walk into a store with little knowledge of the product or service they are looking to purchase.  Today&#8217;s consumer is much more educated, thanks to the internet.  </p>
<p>The yellow pages are becoming completely obsolete.  Hardly anyone uses them, and even if they do they also research the company online before contacting them.  It is much easier for someone to comparison shop these days.  It is much easier for the consumer to know all the details about the product or service before they buy. </p>
<p>Everyone wants a good deal, but they also want to know that they are getting a quality service.  If you do not have a website, then chances are your potential customers will move on to the next business.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t need a flashy website to impress people.  In fact, some of the most basic websites can be far more effective than an expensive flashy website.  Your site needs to provide quality not quantity.  No one is going to buy your product or service just because your site was &#8220;fancier.&#8221;  </p>
<p>Someone will, however, buy your product or service because you gained their trust and provided them with information.  The &#8220;edge&#8221; these days is information.  If you are willing to give a little information to your potential customers before they even buy from you, then you will gain their trust and most likely their business.  </p>
<p>So, you need a website to connect with your potential customers.  The purpose of the website is to provide information to your customer and gain their trust.</p>

If you are here, you are interested in learning about how you can improve the effectiveness of your website and online marketing.  </p>
<p>The first thing that you need to understand is that the internet is not like &#8220;Field of Dreams&#8221; &#8211; and by that I mean it doesn&#8217;t work like &#8220;If you build it, they will come.&#8221;  You cannot simply put a website up and expect it to be found and be profitable.  Plus, you need more than JUST a website.  What I mean by that is, you need a &#8220;web presence.&#8221;  </p>
<p>I am sure the first thing that you are thinking is What is a &#8220;web presence?&#8221;</p>
<p>A web presence involves more than your website.  It involves utilizing all the tools on the internet.  My personal definition of a web presence involves 4 elements of your online interactions:</p>
<p>1- Your website should not be static &#8211; you should be updating your site at least weekly.  You can put coupons or discounts on your site.  You can also update the site with new services and of course client/customer testimonials/reviews.</p>
<p>2- Your website should have a way to capture someone&#8217;s e-mail address so that you can send out a newsletter (at the very least monthly).  This is useful for several reasons.  The first being that takes 7 times for someone to become &#8220;familiar&#8221; with something which makes them comfortable with the product or company.  This will allow them to be more willing to give you their business.  The next being you can offer &#8220;special&#8221; discounts to people who are on your e-mail list.</p>
<p>3- You should be providing content on your site and on other sites (article/content directories).  The internet has made consumers smarter and more discriminating.  People do far more research on their purchases and their choice of service providers.  The way to take advantage of this is to provide potential customers with information.  Give them something, without expecting anything in return, and you will gain their trust and their business.  You want your content to be on your site and on what are called &#8220;authority sites&#8221; such as Squidoo, Hubpages, Wikipedia, Wikianswers, wikispaces, etc&#8230;</p>
<p>4- You should be taking advantage of &#8220;social networking.&#8221;  Facebook is HUGE right now and combining your website with a Facebook Fanpage in the proper way could explode your business.  Social approval is huge.  This is a way to put &#8220;word of mouth&#8221; advertising on steroids, so to speak <img src='http://www.lizmcreations.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> .</p>
<p>If you are not using all 4 elements, then you are not taking full advantage of the internet and you are throwing money out the window or you are giving customers to your competition.  If you aren&#8217;t using any of the elements, then you have &#8220;JUST&#8221; a website and you are throwing money out the window and you are giving customers to your competition.</p>
